Head of Data

We are currently looking for a Head of Data to join our Technology function, reporting directly to the CIO. This is a senior leadership role with a clear mandate to reset and strengthen Zenith's data capability. You will take ownership of our data estate and data engineering landscape, providing strong technical leadership to ensure the data strategy is delivered in a practical, robust, and sustainable way that supports confident decision‑making across the business.

You will lead a multi‑disciplinary data function covering data engineering, business intelligence, analytics and governance. Working closely with the CIO, Technology Leadership Team, and senior stakeholders across all divisions and central functions, you will build clear ways of working, reduce reliance on third‑party delivery, and create a data environment that is trusted, well‑governed, and fit for the future.

 

What's the Role

  • Collaborate with the CIO to shape and successfully execute the Group's data strategy, clearly articulating vision, priorities and benefits to stakeholders
  • Take ownership of the data estate and Microsoft Azure data platform, ensuring robust, high‑quality and scalable data engineering practices
  • Assess the current data environment and define a clear target architecture and migration path away from legacy solutions
  • Design and embed a fit‑for‑purpose data delivery model, including roles, engineering standards, prioritisation and stakeholder engagement
  • Provide strong technical leadership to improve delivery effectiveness, reduce third‑party dependency and ensure value from data investment
  • Enable trusted, high‑quality data that supports finance reporting, regulatory assurance and commercial decision‑making
  • Role model collaborative leadership within the Technology Leadership Team to strengthen maturity across the wider function

 

What Can You Offer

  • Proven experience leading enterprise‑scale data functions across strategy, architecture, governance and delivery
  • Strong data engineering background within a Microsoft/Azure modern data stack environment
  • The ability to confidently assess, challenge and improve complex data architectures and delivery approaches
  • Experience stabilising inherited data estates and leading transformation in complex or regulated environments
  • A track record of building and leading high‑performing teams with clear accountability and ways of working
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, able to influence at senior levels and build trust across the business
  • A leadership style that is collaborative, transparent and grounded, with a focus on delivery and outcomes
